How do you remove scratches from an xbox 360 disc at home?

I bought Halo 3 used at gamestop and when i am done with the first level a pop up comes up and tells me that the disc is unreadable. I am going to exchange it tomorrow but are there any good ways to remove scratches from xbox 360 games?
