What would you base your uni choices from?

I want to go to uni. of hertfordshire plainly because the opportunities they give you are awesome, and i need experience as part of my career in astrophysics..but people are telling me that i should choose imperial, oxford or cambridge, but is it really worth choosing another uni. over a famous name rather than the opportunities that I am gona get?? What's the big diff anyway?
